SCOTTISH HERITAGE WEEKEND

 

October 9-10,2004

 

The Friends of the Scottish Tartans Museum will be sponsoring Scottish Heritage Weekend on Saturday, October 9th and Sunday, October 10th.

 

Activities will commence at the Museum on Main Street in Franklin at 10 am with the Introduction to the Montgomery Tour.  Walter Taylor will introduce the tour, and then those going to the points south of Franklin, where Battles of the French and Indian War took place, will depart.  The Museum has conducted this tour for several years, and it is always very informative for history buffs and Scotts enthusiasts.Carl McSween and others will assist.  The tour lasts about two hours and concludes at the Nikwasi Indian Mound Historical Site in town.  Some will wish to parade, but transportation is available. There will be a small charge for the tour.

Saturday afternoon, beginning at two o’clock, two seminars will be held at the Burrell Building across from the Museum.  Ronan and Mary, in costume, will present “Renaissance Reinactiment with a Scottish Twist” followed by a Country Dance Clinic for beginners with Joe and Claire Suminski.  For information, call Mike Swift at 524-4304.

 

Evening entertainment is being planned.

 

The Annual Kirkin of the Tartans will be held at the Franklin Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning, October 10t h at 11:00.  The Church, located on Church Street, is in charge of the event.  Banners will be available for guests and members to carry into the service.  Clan members who wish to carry their own banners are encouraged to bring them.  If you wish to take part, you should plan to be outside the church at 10:30 am for instructions.  The church secretary can answer you questions, mornings 9-12, call 524-3119.
